The grandest hotel on the Lisbon coast since the 1930s, it currently exudes the elegance of a bygone era, recalling the days when author Ian Fleming was a guest and was inspired by the casino next door to write his James Bond novels (the hotel was featured in the James Bond film "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service"). Past the manicured lawns in front is the postcard beach Tamariz, but guests often prefer to swim in the hotel’s large swimming pool. Other facilities include a fine restaurant and spa.
Italy’s last king (Umberto II) lived in this palatial villa for 37 years, after he left his home country. It’s been turned into a luxurious hotel, with two pools and easy access to several beaches in Cascais. In addition to the relaxing location by the sea, it offers the services of a wonderful spa.
The most stylish hotel on the Lisbon coast is almost floating on the sea. It’s a renovated mansion surrounded by rocks, where guests may enjoy days and nights of sunbathing and drinks by the pool. Inside, every room is different, with several featuring different themes created by some of Portugal’s leading designers. The beaches of Cascais are just a short walk away.
The most central of the beach hotels in Cascais, it overlooks one of the most popular beaches in town, and there are several others within walking distance. It offers scenic views from the rooms and the restaurant, and an outdoor pool on a terrace facing the sea.
Europe’s westernmost hotel is a former fortress built in the 1600s. Perched on a cliff above the wild and beautiful Guincho Beach, it’s known in the region for its Michelin-star restaurant. It isn’t the typical beach hotel -- the rooms feature a classic luxurious décor, and the interior has a certain medieval feel, which, combined with the sea views, make it one of the most romantic places to stay on the Lisbon coast.
Facing the sea, between two of the most popular beaches in Estoril, this is a modern and luxurious hotel for guests who want a central location and the beach at the doorstep. Every room has a balcony with an ocean view, and there’s an outdoor and an indoor pool.
Found by several beaches (with those in Cascais just a short walk down the promenade to the west and those in Estoril to the east), this seafront hotel has spacious rooms with sea views. There is also a huge terrace with a large swimming pool, plus a wonderful spa.
It’s a 3-star hotel but it’s in a 5-star location, facing the beach in the center of Cascais. Most of the rooms have a balcony overlooking the ocean, and on the top floor is a covered pool and a lounge with a view of the bay.
Housed in a fortress built in the 1500s, this is actually a very contemporary hotel. Rooms vary in size, but combine modern art and design. It’s surrounded by studios and galleries, for cultural breaks after hours in the sun at the poolside terrace or the several beaches nearby.
Its outdoor swimming pools are quite big and inviting, but the location within walking distance of several sandy beaches often makes guests prefer to dive into the ocean instead. It’s also just a short walk from the Cascais marina and all of the attractions in the center of town.
