Praia da Rainha

Tourist Guide

Praia da Rainha Beach, Cascais

Praia da Rainha is the most Instagrammable beach in Cascais.

It's hidden between rocks and cliffs, but this small and picturesque beach (it’s just 50 meters/164 feet long) is the most central in Cascais. It's right by the main pedestrian street (Rua Frederico Arouca, with its emblematic wave-patterned cobblestone pavement), next to the Albatroz Hotel (see below), and just a short walk from the train station.

Praia da Rainha Beach, Cascais

Praia da Rainha tends to be crowded in the summer.

The name ("Queen's Beach") is a tribute to Queen Amelia, who, in the 1880s, used to sit on the golden sand looking out to the harbor, and swim in the calm and clear waters.
Largo da Praia da Rainha, a small square, overlooks the beach, and is essentially a terrace offering outdoor eating and drinking with a view of the sea.

The beach faces Cascais' harbor.

On weekends and the hotter summer days, there is often little space left to spread your towel by the mid-morning hours, so arrive early.

Praia da Rainha Beach, Cascais

Praia da Rainha has lifeguard supervision in the summer.

Due to its calm and shallow waters, it’s a good beach for children, and although there are several rocks by the shore, there are few in the sea. Teens often jump off the rocks to the west, but that should be discouraged by parents or chaperones.
